Enkei has been building wheels since 1950 and supplies all of the largest Japanese car manufacturers and General Motors in the OEM market. Enkei established its own test standard, Spec-E, which is tougher than JWL requirements — it calls for a higher drop point in the impact test and 20% more cycles in the rotary bending fatigue and dynamic radial fatigue tests. Enkei's MAT process reduces wheel weight by 10–15%, and every pound of unsprung weight saved has the effect of reducing overall vehicle weight by 20lbs. Enkei has been the official wheel supplier to the McLaren F1 team since 1995.
